On June 13th EHI published the third episode of the My Next Guest Is series, this time hosting EU Commissioner Nicolas Schmit.

The conversation delved into various topics, starting with the Pact for Skills, launched by the EU Commission in 2020, it’s renewed significance in the European Year of Skills 2023 and what can be done to address the shortage of skilled people in the European Union, particularly in industries such as ours.

Both Commissioner Schmitt and Secretary General Federica Sabbati emphasized the role that young people can and should play in the energy transition, therefore the need to attract them to the “professions of the future” as the Commissioner defined them, encompassing a blend of manual, technical and commercial skills.

The issue of migration was also discussed, as an opportunity to address the labor shortage by training people even before they begin their journey towards the EU, creating more solid grounds for a successful integration.
