On 12 November, EHI and MEP Sean Kelly’s office, hosted the event “Combining Decarbonization & Competitiveness: Decarbonizing Buildings and Boosting Demand for Heatpumps in Europe” in the European Parliament.

Heat pumps are essential to decarbonising the building sector, reducing emissions, and preserving European competitiveness. Yet, with stagnating demand threatening the 1.8 million jobs in this vital sector, urgent action is required to secure the future of European companies and ensure climate neutrality by 2050.

During our discussion with Sean Kelly, Jan Brockmann, Niels Ladefoed and Chiara Delmastro, we explored how we can overcome key challenges, with success hinging on key factors:

🔑 Consumers need clarity, incentives, and a strong business case to adopt clean technologies like heat pumps;
🏗️ The industry is innovating, but policies must support demand for large-scale deployment;
⚖️ Strong, predictable policy frameworks are key to aligning efforts across Member States and creating the conditions for market growth.

A special thank you to MEP Sean Kelly and his team for co-organising the event and to our brilliant speakers for their invaluable contributions.
