During EU Sustainable Energy Week in Brussels, COGEN Europe, EHI and other associations will jointly host a conference on innovative business models for distributed generation energy solutions – e.g.: micro CHP and fuel cells –, their importance for consumers and the role of new energy and policy actors in developing and supporting these new business models.
Distributed generation energy solutions, such as fuel cells and micro-CHP, enable end users to reduce energy consumption, integrate variable renewables and significantly decrease CO2 as well as pollutant emissions. But the capital costs of these products represent a barrier for most householders or small businesses.
Therefore, collaboration between industry, public authorities, new market players, decision-makers and research institutes should facilitate new business models, to incentivise consumers to adopt innovative energy technologies.
Indeed, new business models will be crucial to ferry these technologies toward a more mature market development. And these innovative business models should be supported by an appropriate policy framework and removal of barriers, to accelerate mass market adoption and enable manufacturers to reach increases in scale.
The Clean Energy for All Europeans Package is a key opportunity to empower consumers to actively participate in the energy transition and to discuss how to promote innovative energy technologies.
