This workshop will give you the opportunity to hear the viewpoints of speakers from various industry sectors, as well as of NGOs, on carbon pricing. The focus will be on the potential extension of the EU Emissions Trading System (ETS) to the buildings sector and the review of the Energy Taxation Directive.
The speakers will bring perspectives on sectors currently covered by the EU ETS or that may be covered in the future (buildings, transport), as well as on the consequences of carbon pricing for heating and cooling. Each intervention will be followed by a Q&A session.

Background
In July 2019, Commission President Ursula von der Leyen pledged to propose an expanded ETS that would include transport and construction. The communication on the European Green Deal confirms that the Commission will launch work to explore this possibility, as part of broader efforts to ensure that the relative prices of different energy sources provide the right signals for energy efficiency. In parallel, the Commission will propose a revision to the Energy Taxation Directive in June 2021.
