The European Network of Transmission System Operators for Gas (ENTSOG) has published an EU-wide visualisation platform that provides a comprehensive overview of current hydrogen projects along the whole European value chain from production, transmission and distribution to end-use. The map includes hydrogen projects – more than 300 – and shows that hydrogen is already a reality in several parts of Europe, including for use in buildings.
Many of the projects in the map are run by EHI members, aiming to deliver sustainable and cost-effective heating in the regions they are deployed. Hydrogen will play a role to decarbonise buildings, which are the single largest source of CO2 emissions in the EU and the biggest energy consumer. Alongside electrification, that EHI members support through the deployment of electric heat pumps and hybrid heaters across the continent, low-carbon and decarbonised gases will be a fundamental pillar to make heating carbon-neutral in Europe by 2050.
